THE OPEN 2015

THE OPEN 2015

YOU TOO CAN SIGN UP

So I’ve been wondering...Is it a waste of money, time, and energy for your average, three-day-a-week, non-competitive CrossFitter to sign up for The Open? Someone who can’t do a pistol or a muscle-up? Someone who is the last to finish a WOD... frequently? Someone who has never entered a competition and is in the Master’s Division? Someone...like me?

YOU'RE SIGNING UP FOR THE OPEN RIGHT?

Last year the thought never even crossed my mind. Last year the idea would have made me laugh out loud. But that was last year. This year my son Brock said to me, “You’re signing up for the Open, right?” This year I’m thinking it might not be such a ridiculous notion after all, and here’s why:

Doing the Open will reveal my weaknesses. Yep, I’m already aware that I have plenty of them. But maybe I’ll find out something I don’t already know. Muscle-ups and pistols aren’t in my near future, but maybe there’s something that is! Maybe I’ll come away from it with a new goal or be encouraged that I was THIS CLOSE to doing butterfly pull-ups. I think it could be fun to see how I compare to other CrossFitting women in my age bracket. I know I won’t be close to the top, but how far up from the bottom would I be? I’ll never know if I don’t do the Open. Not only that, this gives me the chance to be a part of CrossFit on a grander scale; bigger than my box, my region, or my country. I could see how my abilities compare to other women my age worldwide.

I'M SIGNING UP FOR THE OPEN

Which brings me to my next point...I could compete without having to actually compete! When else could you compete on an international scale from the comfort of your own box? For someone who has no desire to do an actual, real competition, this is just a win-win all around! Also, training for The Open is the best way I know to make myself stick to my new goal of WODing four times a week. I’m signing up for the Open. Are you?
