"I've grown up my whole life being active, lots of biking, running, hiking and backpacking with my family and all kinds of recreational sports. In high school I ran cross country and played baseball. One of my favorite things to do outside of the gym is longboarding and my newest love/hobby is climbing!
Before crossfit I had never really "worked out" before. When I was 5 years old I started riding bikes with my dad and quickly made a hobby out of that, I even competed in a mini triathlon once. Freshman year I messed around a couple times at Fitness 19 but didn't really know what I was doing.
My crossfit journey began in the summer of 2011. I had just finished up my freshmen year of baseball and started to realize I needed to get stronger and put on a little weight if I wanted to make varsity in the future years. My uncle (Ron Sams) had just started this new thing crossfit and insisted I try it and that it'd really benefit me on the field. He began training me in his garage with a wallball, kettlebell, and an old barbell. I had no clue what I was getting myself into but I would ride my bike up to his house and we would do crossfit. It took about one year before he got me completely hooked, and when that happened there was no turning back.
I think one thing that I have really enjoyed about coaching so far is seeing our athletes succeed. The stuff we do at YCF can be so intimidating and so hard and to see someone overcome that and reach/surpass their goals or expectations is truly amazing!"
